To ensure the quality, relevance, and reliability of the cleantech solutions featured on the ICTP platform, a structured set of selection criteria has been established for technology and solution suppliers. 

These criteria help guarantee that participating providers meet defined standards in terms of energy performance, innovation, and environmental impact. By applying a structured evaluation framework, the ICTP aims to foster trust among users while maintaining a high level of technical and sustainability performance across the platform.

The criteria are developed and maintained by the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) operating within each of the ICTP's country windows. Drawing on local expertise from Kenya and Zambia, the TWGs ensure that the selection process remains robust, transparent, and responsive to evolving industry and policy priorities. Suppliers seeking to join the platform are evaluated against a structured list of criteria summarised below, covering areas such as product quality, after-sales support, financial stability, and broader considerations relevant to both end-users and the financial institutions involved in
transactions.

Suppliers who believe they meet the criteria outlined below are invited to express their interest. The ICTP will then send an invitation to complete a detailed application form, which will serve as the basis for assessing compliance with the eligibility criteria.

As part of the onboarding process, suppliers will be required to enter into a Marketing Agreement with the respective country host, currently KAM in Kenya and ZAM in Zambia.

Evaluation of suppliers and performance of products offered Suppliers must offer solutions that are relevant to the ICTP’s focus areas. The inclusion of a supplier is assessed primarily at a company level rather than on individual products, recognising that suppliers may offer a broad portfolio of technologies and solutions.
The final assessment of a specific product’s sustainability rests within the end-user ( the factory) considering the investment and the supplier’s offering.
However, for certain product categories where recognized ratings and standards exist (such as electric motors), the ICTP may require suppliers to offer only products that meet or exceed specific energy performance thresholds.

1. Quality & Performance
Suppliers are expected to deliver consistently high-quality, reliable, and well-performing products. This includes demonstrated quality management practices, rigorous testing processes, and a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
 

2. Sustainability & Social Responsibility
ICTP prioritizes suppliers that actively minimize environmental impact and operate according to high ethical standards. This encompasses responsible resource use, low-carbon production, fair labour conditions, and transparent, traceable supply chains aligned with international sustainability frameworks, as well as having anti-corruption framework in place.
 

3. Compliance & Risk Management
Suppliers must operate in full compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and industry standards. They should also demonstrate strong risk management practices, including data protection, cybersecurity, and robust business continuity planning.
 

4. Financial & Operational Strength
ICTP seeks financially sound partners with the operational capacity to reliably meet demand over time. Suppliers should demonstrate resilience, scalability, and the ability to maintain performance under changing market conditions.
 

5. Innovation & Technical Capability
Suppliers should possess strong technical expertise and a clear capacity for innovation. ICTP values partners who invest in advanced technologies, develop proprietary solutions, and are open to collaboration on tailored or forward-looking initiatives.
 

6. Reputation & Experience
Suppliers should have a proven track record and a solid reputation within their industry. Relevant experience, client references, and recognized market positioning are key indicators of reliability and credibility.
 

7. Delivery & Support
Reliable logistics and effective after-sales support are critical. Suppliers should demonstrate consistent on-time delivery, responsive technical assistance, and comprehensive maintenance and service arrangements.
 

8. Cost & Value Creation
ICTP evaluates suppliers based on overall value rather than upfront cost alone. This includes total cost of ownership, lifecycle efficiency, energy performance, and the availability of value-added services such as training or integration support.

In addition, suppliers that can provide the following will be assessed favourably:

• Willingness to cooperate with academic and research institutions (e.g., by offering training,
  factory visits, etc.), with the purpose to strengthen the technical infrastructure in each
  country and to enhance the national technical institutional framework. 
• 
  The ability to support local job creation through measures such as training, local
  production, local sales and maintenance representatives.

Meeting the criteria above does not automatically guarantee inclusion in the ICTP supplier list, nor does inclusion constitute a guarantee of orders from industrial end-users or confer any form of exclusivity.
The final decision on supplier inclusion rests with the Technical Working Group, which retains the authority to exercise discretion in the interpretation and application of individual criteria.
